Saint John’s University Saint Elizabeth Seton Village and Nicol Bridge

In August of 2022, we celebrated the successful completion of phase one of the Saint Elizabeth Seton Village and Nicol Bridge project on the beautiful and historic campus of Saint John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota. The project was a success from the early stages of design through final construction. The team managed the project with extreme precision and the successful outcome is a testament to the power of human centered design, collaboration, and shared values. Each townhome unit features six bedrooms with shared communal spaces. The development also includes one-bedroom units, which meet the needs of individuals who have food allergies or require accessible living accommodations. Phase one is the first step to strategically realign and enhance the housing options offered by the university to better fit the needs of upperclassmen, who typically prefer apartment-style living over traditional dormitories. With Phase 2 of the townhomes nearing completion for 2023-24 school year, there will be living spaces for up to 144 upperclassmen in the Flynntown Village area of campus. The new 184’ clear span Nicol Pedestrian Bridge connects the Flynntown Village complex to the academic portion of campus. The bridge aligns with the design aesthetics established on campus over time and encourages new student connections across upper and lower campus above sacred Stumpf Lake. In addition to the beautiful new townhome structures, the university was clear in their desire to maintain ample green space for students to gather. The old growth oak and other mixed species of trees scattered across the site provide the perfect backdrop for enjoying the all the wonderful outdoor opportunities Minnesota has to offer.
